Puppies for Sale: Tips for Buying a Pedigreed Puppy
When buying a pedigreed puppy, there are some things you
should be sure to do beforehand. Remember that animal shelters
often have good breeds of animals, and you may want to look into adopting
an animal without a home before buying an animal from a breeder. If
you choose to buy from a breeder, however, there are some things you
should do!
First off, do your research. Read dog magazines, such as Dog Fancy.
Read books about the breed you are selecting. Go to dog shows, talk to
breeders, and even talk to your veterinarian for more information.
Check out websites for good information. Make sure that the dog you pick is right for you.
Meet with the breeder of the dog you're interested in. A breeder
should not only be knowledgeable about the breed of dog, but should also
care about the home the animal is going to. If the breeder doesn't care,
they may not care about their dogs! When visiting with the breeder,
also check out at least one of the puppy's parents. Make sure the dog
is comfortable with the breeder. Often a dog that will quickly shy
away is one that has been abused.
Make sure that the puppy is ready to leave their mother. The dog
should be weaned properly, happy and willing to go. It would be very
traumatizing for a puppy to leave their mother without proper weaning
beforehand.
Additionally, make sure that you are ready for the commitment of
having a new pet in your home! Dogs need love, food, exercise, and warmth.
Make sure that you have the proper pet supplies, such as food, bowls,
and bedding. Also, be sure that you can either groom your pet or afford
grooming, and be able to pay for visits to the vet.
